List rates as of 2026-10-09. us-east-1 is $0.045/hr and $0.045/GB. Each gateway also carries a public IPv4 at $0.005/hr. A Regional NAT Gateway bills one hour per Availability Zone it is active in.
Hourly and per-GB rates from the AWS price list. Public IPv4 is $0.005/hr in each of these regions.

One zonal gateway, or one hour per AZ a Regional NAT Gateway is active in. Each one adds a public IPv4.
Who This Tool Is For
Platform engineers and FinOps leads sizing VPC egress for EKS, Lambda-in-VPC, or classic three-tier apps. If Cost Explorer shows a climbing EC2-Other or VPC line item, NAT is often the culprit.
Why We Built This Tool
An idle NAT Gateway in us-east-1 is $36.50/month once the public IPv4 is on the bill. Processing, cross-AZ transfer, and internet egress sit on top of that. This calculator uses the AWS price list from 2026-10-09 for us-east-1, Ireland, Frankfurt, and London.
What Problem It Solves
- Five lines, one total. Hours, public IPv4, processing, cross-AZ, and internet egress.
- Idle is visible. Set processed GB to 0 and see the gateway and its address.
- Low volume. At 10 GB, the hourly and IP lines are almost the whole bill.
- Regional NAT. Enter one gateway per active AZ. The hour does not collapse to a single charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do these prices come from?
AWS price list published 9 October 2026. us-east-1 is $0.045 per gateway-hour and $0.045 per GB. Ireland is $0.048, Frankfurt $0.052, London $0.050. Public IPv4 is $0.005 per hour in each region. Cross-AZ transfer is $0.01 per GB each direction. Internet egress uses the us-east-1 first-tier rate of $0.09 per GB. Confirm on the Amazon VPC and EC2 pricing pages before budgeting.
Does an idle NAT Gateway include the public IPv4?
Yes. One gateway in us-east-1 is $32.85 in hours plus $3.65 for its public IPv4, $36.50 in a 730-hour month, before any bytes are processed.
Does a Regional NAT Gateway remove the per-AZ hour?
No. AWS charges one NAT Gateway-hour for each Availability Zone the regional gateway is active in. Three active AZs in us-east-1 is $0.135 per hour, the same hourly bill as three zonal gateways.
Is internet egress included, and what about the 100 GB allowance?
Egress is a separate line at $0.09 per GB of outbound traffic. AWS includes 100 GB of data transfer out to the internet each month, aggregated across services and regions except China and GovCloud. This calculator does not subtract that allowance, because the rest of the account may already have used it.
Does this include PrivateLink or Transit Gateway?
No. Transit Gateway attachments, VPN, Direct Connect, and interface endpoint hourly fees are separate line items.
Can I avoid NAT entirely?
For S3 and DynamoDB, Gateway Endpoints remove that traffic at no charge. Other AWS APIs can use Interface Endpoints. General internet egress still needs a NAT Gateway, a NAT instance, or an IPv6 egress-only path.
